The files will be downloaded and imported into the NLE that I will be using to edit my film

Health & Safety Precautions

Constraints and Contingency Plans

There weren't many constraints that I would have faced during the shooting of my film, but there were several issues that could have gone wrong. For example a low battery would have made me rush and shoot my film without the quality I wanted it to have, so in order to avoid this I made sure the batteries for my camera were fully charged the day before. If I hadn't taken the chance to charge the batteries and  was forced to rush the shoot, I would have shot as much as I could with the amount of power in the batteries and filmed the rest at a later date.

Weather was also a constraint I had to face; I was planning to shoot on the weekend but due to the fact that the weather forecast was predicting rain on the weekend, so I had to change the dates for my filming schedule.

What you need to know about Camera shots and Techniques CIM 314V 1,2

This was a short film trailer that I had created last year, the film trailer was based around social realism, so it was heavily based around teen drama which was emphasised to actually create some form of drama and scenarios. The clips are recorded as .MOV files which were then processed and edited in a movie making software to create the trailer. After editing the clips together I outputted the file as AVCHD in 1080p. This way I was able to retain the resolution of the clips but had later realised I had lost some quality due to the DPI being very low in comparison to the aspect ratio used.

There are several different formats that videos can be outputted to. The most common file formats for video used are MOV, MP4, FLV, WMV and AVCHD. Each file format stands for something, and is usually made to be played in a certain media player. For example, MOV files are usually played back in Quicktime, WMV files are played back in Windows Media Viewer and AVCHD can be played back in VLC Player. AVCHD retains high quality as it stands for Advance Video Codec High Definition, and if the settings are done correctly you can retain the frame size which will retain its quality. The output is also responsible for the codec and compressions of the video files.

The quality of a recording depends on the frame size it was recorded in, nowadays the best way to record is in HD. There is 720p HD and 1080p HD, the difference between the two is that 720p is known to be as normal HD whereas 1080P is known to be full HD as the frame size is a lot larger (1280x720, 1920x1080). The larger the frame size equals the larger amount of pixels in the frame, leading to a higher quality footage.

This also plays a role in the aspect ratio, if the footage is to be played in widescreen, the aspect ratio would be 16:9 whereas traditionally when tv's were square, the aspect ratio used to be 4:3. But it is possible to get an even greater aspect ratio larger than 16:9 if you were to use anamorphic lenses which will give an aspect ratio of 2.39:1

Multicam

A multi-camera setup is usually used for film making when more than one camera angle is needed for one scene/shot but is needed to be simultaneous and linear in editing. Traditionally the multicam set up was filmed with film cameras and later edited to sync up to the sound recorded at the time of recorded. Nowadays it is much easier to get this effect due to the digital age we live in. By setting up a number of cameras it is simple to record audio and video simultaneously which can then be put into an editing software such as Final Cut Pro to create a sequence of shots that are all synced perfectly to the audio recorded at the time.

To put this to practice I had used some footage from a show that Doc Brown had done and imported the shots into Final Cut Pro. The Following images show the key stages to making a multicam sequence in Final Cut Pro.

The image above shows the imported audio and video put into Final Cut Pro

This screenshot shows the next step to take; after selecting the audio and video files I wanted to be synced, I clicked File>New Multicam Clip

After clicking the "New Multicam Clip" a box appears asking to name the file. If a sound clip was also selected, it is easier to make the software sync the video with the audio by making sure the box "Use audio for synchronisation" is ticked. Then by pressing "OK" the software begins to create the multicam  clip itself.

By dragging the new multicam clip into the timeline and pressing "CMD and 7" it brings up the video angles available to cut into the sequence. By making sure the video tab is selected at the top of the angles box, it gives the freedom to seamlessly sync the video clips to the sound recorded.

After completing the sequence, its best to export the file at its highest quality. File>Share>Master File (Default)

Select the quality you wish the file to be saved in and click "next" then name the file and choose file destination and click "save".

Understanding Communication Techniques DMC U2 1,1/1,2/1,4

Explaining Procedures to a Specialist photo Retoucher

Explaining to a photo retoucher is a simple task as they would know what each term used means. For example they would know the difference between processing a RAW image file and retouching a JPEG file. Also they would understand which program has been suggested whether it be Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop. Explaining what you want them to do would be quite simple as well because you'll be able to tell them that you want one area with higher contrast in comparison to this area which you would desaturated and blurred. It would be a simple task because they should and would know all the technical terminology used without having to explain which each tool does.

Explaining Procedures to a Non Specialist

In order to explain procedures to a non specialist it is important to remember that they may or may not have a basic idea of what each term means, so in order for them to understand properly you must use the terminology as you would but explain to them what that means in depth, and possibly show them examples. Its also important to remember to keep calm in these situations especially with clients as they may not know what they want from a photo, so in order for them to give you a brief description of what they expect you may have to inspire them a little by explaining and showing examples.

Project Review CIM U301 4,1 - 4,4

Identify the limitations and constraints you had to work within in terms of digital technology available and client brief given

I didn't face any major limitations or constraints during the projects duration. Apart from the fact that many of the products were created using online softwares, such as prezi and piktochart to create my presentations and visual diagrams. Although a minor limitation, it did affect my work by making all the tasks look similar instead of showing a vast variety of softwares used. The client brief also created a limitation as the tasks had to be creative to meet the criteria given.

I had also combined these online softwares with the use of Adobe Photoshop products, this allowed me to have a little more freedom in how I want the product to look. Even though this wasn't a limitation but it did mean that I had to spend time creating my own products.

Explain how your final products met the client brief and give reasons for the design choices that you made

The final products I ended up creating including the pre production documents met the client brief as they clearly show the use of creative media.

My mind map was created using Coggle, a online freeware used to create digital mind maps and spider diagrams. The fact that I was able to use an online freeware to produce a high quality mind map.

The Visual Diagram I had created was done in Adobe Photoshop because I wanted to show that I am able to create clear visual diagrams by hand instead of using stock images.

My Moodboard proves that I am able to use online sources and gather images as a source of research for inspiration for my own converging media product and web portfolio.

My Storyboard shows that I am able to combine the use of Adobe Photoshop with the freedom of using a drawing tablet to get authentic illustrations. Although the drawings were not to a brilliant standards the details given were to a high degree.

Get feedback from the client and give reasons why you agree or disagree with the comments given

Overall, the feedback I had received from the client was quite positive, although I did have to clear up some grey areas that weren't understood clearly through my pitch, for example how the camera on my product would work and how it would sync up etc. The only negative feedback I received was that I could possibly be going in for a loss for a while with tough competitors on the market which already have a strong consumer base. Which in fact, I did vaguely agree with due the fact that I had briefly covered the competitors during my pitch. An example of positive feedback would be that the client had understood who my product was aimed at and how it would be best used.

Identify and describe how you would improve your preproduction documents, based on feedback obtained and your own opinion

There wasn't really any comments made specifically on my pre production documents but in my own opinion due to the feedback given and questions received, I think that my Visual Diagram lacked in detail i.e. didn't give enough information to the client to give a clear interpretation of what my product is, so if I was to do it again, I would make sure there is a lot more information on it alongside with the main important info standing out. I'd also like my storyboard to be of a higher quality but still digitally drawn with a drawing tablet although this didn't seem to arise any problems during the pitch I had done. I found that the mind map had the balance between being creative but also full of information to provide the client with enough information alongside the pitch given to create an interpreted idea of what my product is, as is with the moodboard which is full of images of competing products and inspirational websites for my web portfolio. If I was to undertake this task again I would make sure to cover a "How to use" diagram or flow chart showing how to actually use the product as there was some confusion about that asking how its synced to the phone, auto focusing and other similarly related questions.

Describe how your preproduction documents are fit for purpose

Mind maps present any form of information relating to the main topic in the center. My mind map meets the standards that would be expected by the client. As it gives info covering the major areas of the product such as price, compatibility and main features of the product itself.

Visual Diagrams present similar info, but more visually including images and large illustrations with survey findings and other figures. My Visual Diagram lacks in a large amount of information but does provide necessary information that is important to my converging media product.

Mood boards provide a brief idea of how something would look or what kind of style something might follow, essentially a inspirational starting point. My mood board covers this as it shows designs of competing products and shows screenshots of existing websites that have suitable designs for my product.

Storyboards are created to display shot by shot animations or moving images for adverts, films or any form of moving image. My storyboard lacks in artistic value but has enough written info to direct a camera man in what kind of shots are needed.

Describe the technical and aesthetic qualities of your preproduction documents

My mind map doesn't really have that many technical qualities apart from the fact that it was made online via Coggle. The aesthetics of the mind map is quite useful though because it is all colour coded, so each branch is a different colour and has smaller branches that link into the main branch. This helps the viewers understand the mind map a lot easier.

My visual diagram is again, lacking in technical qualities apart from being created in photoshop, but has got aesthetic values such as following a house style and being quite graphical with illustrations and graphs.

My mood board was created using several websites and search engines, which is a technical value in itself; being able to use search engines to its full extent. Aesthetically it once again follows the house style that I have decided to use, using greyscale colours (Black, grey, white) and being presented in a neat JPEG format.

My Storyboard however has technical qualities ranging from the use of search engines for a template and the use of photoshop combined with a drawing tablet to have full free movement to draw and write directions as authentically as possible. Lacking in aesthetics but providing enough info to be easy to follow.

Create Your Preproduction Documents For A web Portfolio and Promotional Advert CIM U301 3,1 - 3,5

I had used Coggle to design this mind map; Coggle is a free to use mind mapping software which is easy to use and has a simple interface. I used it after attempting to use other programs such as mindmup and other similar online freewares, but Coggle was my favourite. After creating the mind map, I outputted the file as a JPEG so it could be viewed as a high quality image.

http://www.google.co.uk/glass/start/what-it-does/

I used Google Drives presentation tool to create the mood board as it is easy to use. I gathered the images from specific websites that had products and interfaces that related to my product and web portfolio. Once again I outputted the mood board as a JPEG after screen-shotting it so I didn't lose the resolution of the image.

To create my web portfolio I will be using Blogger as it is really easy to use whilst keeping a professional look to it, its easy to customise templates and have the pages look exactly as you want them to look.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had created the visual diagram using Adobe Photoshop, gathering the images needed from Google and using one of the charts from my target audience research to give a clear visual explanation of how my product compares to other products. I saved the file as a JPEG so the file was clear after uploading it to my portfolio.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My storyboard is pretty much the same as the rough copy I had done but I had created it using Photoshop, using a template from Google and drawing back into the template with a Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet. Once again outputting the files as JPEGs.

To create my product advert it would be filmed using a Canon EOS 5DMK3 and edit the video in Avid to produce a high quality video, which would be outputted in AVCHD most likely.

Plan to create Pre-Productions for a Web Portfolio and Promotional Advert. CIM U301 - 2,1-2,6

Client Requirements for Web Portfolio: -

My Web Portfolio has to be quite appealing to eye for several reasons. Employers and educators in the creative media industry look for things that are different and things that stand out, so if they were to employ or tutor, their company/work will stand out too. Taking that into consideration, the theme of my portfolio is quite electronic and abstract which draws the attention of the viewer in more, it'll also have to be sleek in design but not too over powering. It'll also be easy to navigate through pages of different projects meaning the viewer can easily comprehend what has been done and the reason behind it.

Client Requirements for Product Advert: -

The requirements for the product will be similar to a certain degree for my converging media product. Having a very similar target audience means that the product would have to meet standards that the advert is setting. So for example, the product itself would have to be creative, sleek and abstract to appeal to the creative target audience along side the promotional advert which will have to have a balance between being well made to a professional degree yet still be creative enough to draw in the viewers attention. Colour schemes would include a dark or grey background which is very minimal in props at first but then go into a few action shots of people wearing the product.

Generic House Style: -

The general style of my web portfolio and advert have been briefly mentioned in the paragraphs above. Both the portfolio and product advert will have to be creative and professional to a certain degree, be easy to understand/navigate and should be able to catch the consumers attention. The colour scheme would be dark or grey, quite minimalistic so the product doesn't get over powered by surrounding area and the font would most likely be arial or verdana as both are easy to read.

Rough Drafts:

Mind Map

Visual Diagram

Storyboard

Mood Board

For each pre production method, its vital that the right format is used for example, mind maps and visual diagrams may be similar in providing information but a visual diagram allows viewers to see photos and graphical information instead of ideas that are created for the topic. Mood boards are great for inspiration for ones own website or product as you can base your work around styles you have seen, this can be done via mind maps and visual diagrams but its a lot more effective to be heavy on the images and light on the words. Story boards have one cause and one cause only, they present a moving image or animation step by step with details such as shot type, movement and sound, which can be written out in a mind map but wont be as effective, although visual diagrams such as piktocharts/infograms could probably be edited into making digital storyboard.

Creating a new converging Media Product. DMC U1 3,3 - 4,3

Market Research Feedback

My market research was done on a focus group of young adults and teens to find out what they thought of competing products and how they compare them to my product in terms of likability, as well as to find out how much they as a group would be willing to spend on my product so I get a generalised idea of how much I could sell my product at. After taking a look at the feedback from my target audience, I have gathered that my product may have to be sold at a smaller retail price; maximum of £140, so £40 less than intended which isn't too bad; regarding the fact that several people thought that the idea of the "Eye Cam" is quite good, even though the views were varied. In comparison to existing products such as the Google Glasses and the GoPro cam, they did have a better likeness towards them but I believe my product would sell more due to the price its being sold at.
